Sportset Cheer Mission Statement

At Sportset Cheer, our mission is to champion the spirit and skill of cheerleading among athletes across Long Island. We are dedicated to nurturing talents of all ages, providing a dynamic platform for learning foundational techniques and game-day routines, alongside advancing competitive prowess for those aspiring to join the exceptional Sportset Cheer Competition team. Our commitment lies in inclusivity and the unwavering support to offer every girl an opportunity to cheer, grow, and excel within our vibrant community. We believe in the transformative power of cheerleading to build confidence, teamwork, and athletic excellence, setting the stage for our athletes to shine both on the sidelines and in the spotlight of competition.

What is the difference between sideline and competition cheer?
  • Sideline Cheer teaches skills needed to cheer on the sideline of a football or basketball game.
    • Motions
    • Jumps
    • Signwork
    • Cheers
    • Sideline dances
    • Short halftime routines
    • Tumbling and stunting are not the focus of sideline classes
  • Competition Cheer teaches skills needed to perform in cheerleading competitions.
    • Competition routines include all of the skills above

What is the difference between the town competition teams and Sportset Cheer?
  • Sportset Cheer is proud to support the town competition teams for Oceanside, RVC, East Rockaway, Baldwin, East Meadow, Long Beach and Hewlett.
    • ​Town teams compete in the Nassau Suffolk Cheerleading Association league.
      • ​Town Teams do not have tryouts. 
      • Teams are divided by age only.
        • ​Ages may be combined based upon enrollment.
        • Team competes in division with the age of the oldest child on the team.
      • Season starts August 1 and ends November/December.
      • Competitions take place mid-October through November in Nassau and Suffolk Counties
        • This year we hope to attend one competition in NJ in early December (TBA)
    • Sportset Cheer is a year-round tryout team.
      • ​All athletes will be placed on a team based upon skill level
      • Teams will practice 1x per week in the fall plus a tumbling class
      • Starting December teams practice two days per week
      • Competitions start in March
        • ​Compete in the Tri-State area which may involve hotel stay
      • Potential to qualify for National cheerleading events
Which program is right for my child?
  • We have programs for all athletes regardless of cheer experience.
  • No experience is necessary to participate in our Recreational or Competitive programs.
